Kakarakaya Fry | Healthy & Tasty Bitter Gourd Fry | Crispy Pavakkai Fry


Kakarakaya Vepudu  or Pavakkai Fry - a simple crispy bitter gourd fry recipe made in South Indian style.  Bitter gourd is said to regulate blood sugar levels, so it is good to include them in your weekly menu.

This pavakkai fry requires very few ingredients, but tastes so good that even if you don't like bitter gourd, you will love this fry.  This tastes great as a side with any sambar, rasam or even curd rice.

Ingredients:

  • Bitter gourd - 250 gm
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp (adjust according to taste)
  • Salt - as required
  • Oil - for deep frying

How To Prepare Kakarakaya Vepudu:
  • Wash and cut bitter gourd into thick circles and remove the seeds.
  • Heat a kadai and add oil as required for deep frying.
  • Once the oil becomes hot, add the bitter gourd pieces and fry until they turn golden.
  • Transfer the fried bitter gourd into a bowl.
  • Add red chilli powder and salt, close the bowl with a lid and shake it well so that the chilli powder and salt gets coated evenly onto the pieces.
  • Crispy, yummy bitter gourd fry is ready.  Serve as a side to any sambar, rasam or curd rice.
