Masala Chai | Indian Spice Tea | Authentic Indian Chai


Masala Chai or Indian Spice Tea is flavoured tea made with tea leaves, milk, sweetener and a mixture of aromatic spices.  Though the origin for masala chai is India, it is now popular all over the world.  There is no fixed recipe for masala chai and every family has its own version.

Spice up your mornings with this masala chai.


Masala chai, Indian spice tea




Ingredients:

  • Tea powder - 6 tsp
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Grated ginger - 2 tsp
  • Chai masala - 1 tsp
  • Sugar - 4 tsp (adjust according to taste)

For Chai Masala:

  • Green cardamom - 4
  • Cinnamon - 2 (1-inch sticks)
  • Cloves - 6 pieces
  • Black peppercorns - 20

How To Prepare Masala Chai:

  • Dry roast all the masala ingredients until you get a nice aroma, remove onto a plate and let them cool completely.  Grind them to a fine powder and store in an airtight container.
  • Heat 3 cups of water in a pan.  When it starts to boil, add tea powder and let it simmer on low flame for about 4-5 mins.
  • Add milk, , ginger, chai masala and sugar and mix well and let it boil for about 3 mins.
  • Strain it with a tea strainer and serve hot with biscuits or cookies of your choice.
